Haiku Carpe Diem #195, The Hermit (IX)

Carpe Diem’s next Tarot Haiku prompt is The Hermit (IX)…

Leaving his cave on the mountain, the old hermit walked for days and nights around the villages, highways and byways of the area. Curiously, even in daylight hours he still carried his lantern lit.

One day, on passing through their village once again,  the villagers’ curiosity overtook their suspicion of strangers and they asked the hermit “Sir, why do you carry your lantern lit even in daylight?” The wizened hermit thought for a moment, and then with a sparkle in his eye replied “Because I’m searching for an honest man.”

I don’t remember seeing the hermit’s story of carrying the lantern in daylight in my reading. Interesting story and carried so nicely into your haiku. I think this hermit is not exactly Jung’s inner wisdom but the background sounded like it. Mine is very refined and dignified. lol.
