Haiku Carpe Diem #102, Sweet Memories

Today’s Carpe Diem Prompt is Sweet Memories.

I started writing this and before I realised it, the words seemed to relate my Mum back in the UK who suffers from Dementia and who has been involved in so many people’s sweet memories.

Looking at photos
Of a life’s sweet memories
Tables, food, wine, friends

Sweet memories cloud
Behind lack lustre eyes
Dementia’s mask smiles

From us, the many
Who have laughed and loved with you
We raise ‘just one glass’

Love you Mum!

This is so tender and wonderful. I dedicated my nursing career to caring for people with dementia and related conditions…
I am so sorry for your having to go thru this with your mom whom I can tell is dearly loved.
    Thank you for sharing.

      Thanks Siggi,
My Mum was also a nurse most of her working life, including many years as a hospice nurse.
      Special people you nurses 🙂

  2. Precious memories of different tones that never fade. And there’s always love.

Yes, one raises a cup in appreciation for a mum so dear. She deserves a lot more, certainly! Nicely JRB

  4. Dementia … loss of sweet memories, but also people suffering with dementia create new sweet memories for the ones around them. I worked as a nurse almost 15 years in a nursery home for the elder and I only have sweet memories of that time … and it wasn’t easy, but always a joy to do that what I am good in … caring. Thank you JRB for sharing this sweet memories with us, brought back sweet memories to my work in that nursery home.
